    General Scope and Summary

     

    SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative and resourceful Medicinal Chemist for an important Scientist level role supporting the Exploratory research group.

    The candidate should have a keen interest in exploratory drug discovery to support our Exploratory Research group on small molecule drug discovery for CNS disorders. A desire to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, start-up environment will be essential as well as strong organization skills to support multiple programs simultaneously.  The position requires individuals with an exceptional grasp of Synthetic and Medicinal chemistry and desire to learn interdisciplinary drug discovery processes from hit identification through lead series nomination.  Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, as is the desire and ability to excel in a multidisciplinary environment as an integral team member across multiple project teams.

     

    Roles and Responsibilities

     

    • Design, implement and execute hit finding and tool compound identification and production strategies at various CROs.
    • Provide strategic and scientific leadership in an outsourced Exploratory Research and Medicinal Chemistry environment
    • The ability to interact and contribute to internal multidisciplinary Exploratory Research project teams is essential
    • Provide timely and well-organized reports to project teams

    Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

     

    Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, and good negotiation skills, ability to analyze complex issues to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs and recommendations. Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action; excellent analytical skills and an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.

    • Doctoral degree (PhD) or equivalent in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry
    • 0 - 3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with a track record of scientific innovation and familiarity with hit identification and early lead optimization
    • Familiarity with molecular modeling a plus
    • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills who can inspire others
    • Demonstrated technical proficiency, scientific creativity, independent thought, and ability to effectively collaborate with others
